I know no one goes "Woo-hoo! Jury duty!", and I'm really not relishing the prospect of waking up early enough to make it downtown by 8 AM in a couple weeks, but I'm forever glad that I live in a country where this is one of the fundamental foundations of our judicial system.

Do they ever actually put you on the jury? (I've never been on one; closest I got was being the prosecutor's first peremptory challenge to kick off.)

I haven’t. The only one where I came close was a capital murder case — but the prosecutor gets to strike as many jurors as they like, and I think they found my thoughts on the topic of execution not entirely to their liking.

In a truly bizarre coincidence, one of my wife’s co-workers did end up serving on the same case. It was apparently rather harrowing. But, again, I’d rather this than not having this.
