Why isn't this everywhere? When traveling in Europe/Asia cityguides always have an OMG MUST-SEE STREET AMAZING FOOD SHOPS COFFEE and w/o fail, it's...a nice pedestrian st. Nice to walk down bc no cars. Trees to sit under & eat a pastry. Street music. why can't we have nice things

Maybe some combination of having rigid zoning laws that prohibit property from being used in better ways, and being in a place where even if most people can get around without cars, the decision makers are people who drive? Seems like there must be other factors, though...
