Calling the place where Penn State is University Park rather than State College feels weird to be, though I admit I've never been there. I did grow up in Pennsylvania, though.
I think the sign came down not long after I moved desk from there to the northern corner of the building. (I have a photo of my new desk there taken in December 2016, probably not long after moving desks.)
No, that was on the 7th floor of the San Francisco office at 2 Harrison Street. The kitchen / presentation area was on the opposite side of that wall. (It was close to the eastern corner of the building, maybe roughly underneath the second L in HILLS BROS COFFEE.)

Very glad to see the dissent point out that the claim (not just the majority but way too many poorly informed pundits) that the U.S. was some kind of outlier on abortion policy is nonsense that requires willful ignorance about how abortion law in Europe actually works in practice

This morning I walked past a quote from FDR that might be relevant these days.

Has housing really done better than alternative places to put money (like, say, google.com/finance/quote/VTI… )? (We recently bought a house for the first time, and it wasn't fun. But we've definitely also had issues with renting.)

And there's more (next block to the east) built during 2021. (Actually haven't been to that block this year to see how it's going...)

Yeah, I could swear I saw a different Hazardous Weather Outlook a few minutes ago, but I do see that one now. (Still no mention in the actual forecast.)

All forecast.weather.gov/MapClic… says about wind for tomorrow is "East wind 5 to 7 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon."

Why isn't this threat mentioned in the NWS forecast?

Rockville specifically for my wife's job. The northeast US more generally to be closer to family (parents in Philadelphia, other relatives in NYC, etc.) and because the Bay Area didn't seem sustainable.

Now that I've lived here for 10 months, it appears to be time to understand what's going on in local politics.

I'm ordering takeout from a restaurant website (via @clovercommerce). I finish the order, enter my credit card number, and then... (I've never had a CAPTCHA show up right after hitting a "Place order" or "Buy now" button before.)

I think there used to be a deal with the Netherlands, but I don't see it there anymore. (My memory is the list about 4-7 years ago was maybe just the Netherlands and the Republic of Korea.)

The list at cbp.gov/travel/trusted-trave… is getting longer, and the Republic of Korea is in it (and I think was one of the first).

FWIW, this map (made from misuse of kevinhayeswilson.com/redraw/) shows a 2-way split of texas in which North Texas has 16 electoral votes and is solid Republican, and South Texas has 24 electoral votes and would have gone barely democratic using 2016 county results.

The part of Uvalde that votes Republican isn't the part where the shooting was.

On the flip side, I think we consistently pronounce Dutch origin words incorrectly. If I lived in Southern California, I might have fun saying Van Nuys correctly. On the other hand, I'm from near Philadelphia, and I'm not sure I can say the Dutch pronunciation of Schuylkill.

Or Spanish-origin street names in the SF Bay Area, which need to be learned individually AFAICT.

Is not teaching kids to swim the main problem, or are most of the drowning deaths infants or toddlers in things like bathtubs?
