Another edge case worth checking: the larger square touches both sides of the circle and is centered. In that case side of the larger square s is such that s^2 + (s/2)^2 = 8^2, so s = 16 / sqrt(5), and s^2 = 256/5. But then how to figure out the size of the smaller square...
I suspect it then depends on which sorts of pollution you care about more.
Though taking trains in China has a lot of the same unpleasantness as flying in the US -- security, waiting in lines, having tickets checked, etc. But at least the stations are in the city center and it pollutes less (at least if the electricity isn't from coal).

On the Peninsula we should demand Caltrain running BART-like service. It's much closer to reality than replacing it all with Indian gauge and third rail etc. Electrification is well underway. Need some passing tracks, new trains, and gradual platform raising, grade sep.

It's not just the number of transfers but also how out of the way some were, e.g., going from Olympic to Diamond Hill. (Yes, could have walked to Mong Kok instead, if I thought I could figure out how to get through the maze of highways. I guess that's the recommended way...)
Examples I remember: - Airport to Lok Ma Chau (5 seats, though Lai King and Prince Edward transfers are cross-platform) - Olympic to Diamond Hill (3 seats if via Lai King)
The network in HK has a bunch of annoying failures to connect lines -- only some of them results of geography (water), such that getting from point A to point B is often more complex than it seems like it ought to be.

And don't worry that the directions to Sydney vs. Abidjan are 173° apart and not 30° or so as depicted? gcmap.com/mapui?P=SFO-SYD,SF…

I didn't notice it was humid... but now that I'm reading about it, it does feel like the weather is nicer than normal this evening.
Folks back east may get a chuckle... but dewpoints in the mid 60s (or higher) classify as "humid" here in the #SF Bay Area. It's certainly feeling 'sticky' outside this evening... #CAwx @KPIXtv

In some JS leaks, the program *does* use the object again, but doesn't need to. (Consider the extreme example of a cache that never evicts entries; cache lookup still examines them.) So you could say "use again" is *still* too conservative since some future uses are unneeded.

There's now a second open position on the Layout team at @mozilla. This one's a less-senior position, so a good fit for recent graduates. The layout team works on CSS, layout, fonts & text, animation, printing, etc. in @firefox. careers.mozilla.org/position… (Portland, Oregon)

I saw the same in Amsterdam (photo from June 2014, Tweede Helmersstraat & Nassaukade).

Yeah, but the text in the screenshot says West rather than East.
Per other parts of the thread some of this seems to be Google sending users searching for "Firefox" to language-specific URLs rather than to mozilla.org's root. If you go to mozilla.org/ we do honor Accept-Language; mozilla.org/ar forces Arabic.
Do they mean 85N 120E (not W), or was the Lena River delta reference wrong?

I think having the Arabic web page offer the Arabic browser is the right default. It should be clearer that the download being offered is platform- and language-specific. (Used to be better.) Also worth understanding why you ended up on Arabic web page if that wasn't desired.

Distribution of Firefox localizations on desktop platforms is primarily a download-time thing. A given download contains only one language. There's some support for installing more and switching between them, but it's not designed to be the primary path for users.
