Maybe worth noting that .a :is(.b .c) matches a slightly larger set of things, since it matches everything matched by: .a .b .c .b .a .c .a.b .c

Discussion of Y2K reminds me that we should be worrying about 2038 before it gets too close: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_2…

So, sure, *I* could afford to stay... but it wasn't clear how long the society I was staying in would continue to function.

It really starts to feel like the cost of housing would lead to some sort of societal collapse where many of the professions that society depends on would no longer be present in the region.

My experience was that having a kid made the whole thing feel even worse. Finding daycare was hard. Then I'd think about whether there would be young teachers willing to work in the Bay Area over the next 18 years, given the cost of housing. And doctors. etc.

Also, that may (??) be an expensive house price in the suburbs of Richmond, but it isn't one in the suburbs of DC.

And there's still a bunch of suburban office park construction happening in Rockville, filling in areas near Adventist Hospital. (Also planning for the Belward Farm site nearby.)

Indeed, visible in maps.app.goo.gl/qibNxQMFPUJM… . I remembered them somewhere near Duveneck, but I only checked street view on the Alester side for some reason.
Managed to find an old street view image at Channing & Webster: maps.app.goo.gl/nCGnCGDKjYZi…

Definitely seen it somewhere else. It was probably near a school in Palo Alto, but I can't recall where, and can't find it on street view.

A system like the UK's that has fewer checks and balances might help. The Tories don't campaign to end the NHS because the NHS is popular, and people know that if they wanted to end it, they could. US Rs campaign on things they don't intend to do; it gets the base excited.

My first Mastodon account, from a few years ago, is in fact gone. (Maintainer didn't want to deal with the spam.) I'm now on my second account.

I saw much more military presence visiting Seoul than I did visiting Taipei. Though there is always the warning about photography being forbidden during approach to Taoyuan Airport, which gives an expectation of it...

Mozilla probably had the advantage that more other companies were willing to help.

The Web isn't subject to the particular power dynamic described upthread and in the opinion piece: removal from the store.

I don't think it's clear what about Firefox OS was a mistake in strategy versus a mistake in execution. (There were plenty of the latter.)

Looks like you have the account name correct in this tweet, but wrong in your bio.

The Australia figure in this map surprises me, given the coffee-drinking Australians I know.
