The delivery of $1200 stimulus checks to needy Americans is delayed so that President Trump's name can be printed on the checks (nothing like this happened with any previous president). OK. So I suggest that Trump's name also be put on top of tax bills.

I wrote a few words about a new amazing feature of the Firefox Profiler, which is itself quite amazing, blog.paul.cx/post/profiling-…, and how it helps reporting performance issues in complex scenarios like media playback. If you see something, file something !
For all the attention and praise on New York, West Coast was earlier and tougher in fighting COVID-19. The results so far: huge disparity in case and death tolls Story w @jmartNYT nytimes.com/2020/04/13/us/po…
Inside the TR: Reactor Department was the first to go down. Dr's estimated 50-67 could die. Other senior officers wanted to co-sign Crozier's letter, but he declined saying the burden was his alone to bear. Story w/ @Tmgneff@EricSchmittNYT@helenecoopernytimes.com/2020/04/12/us/po…
Another story that should be completely shocking and impeachable: A US president wants to destroy the postal service because it carries packages for a company whose owner also owns a newspaper that prints stories he doesn’t like
Yet it will barely make a ripple
The admin demanded Congress not include money for the postal service in the rescue package because Trump doesn’t like some Post stories and therefore wants to get back at Bezos, whose little delivery company uses the mail

The Postal Service needs a bailout. The Trump Administration keeps shooting one down.
Trump threatened to veto the $2.2 trillion CARES Act if it included a grant for the post office.

A progressive response to this pandemic is not possible without USPS.
- Vote by mail.
- More direct payments.
- Rx delivery for isolated seniors and those with disabilities.
This isn’t just another squabble.
This is at the core of all we’ve fought for.

I spoke with the Postmaster General again today. She could not have been more clear:
The Postal Service will collapse without urgent intervention, and it will happen soon.
We’ve pleaded with the White House to help. @realDonaldTrump personally directed his staff not to do so.
NEW w/@jimtankersley: The coronavirus pandemic is ravaging the United States Postal Service.
Mail vol down 30% this week, compared to same time last year. Could be down 50% by end of June
USPS told Congress today it needs a cash infusion and fast.

"The research revealed a previously hidden spread of the virus that might have been detected if aggressive testing programs had been put in place."
...
"So far, [...] researchers have identified seven separate lineages of viruses that entered New York and began circulating."
All over the world, the authorities are closing down parks and trails—but that's unsustainable, counterproductive and probably even harmful. Instead, we should adapt to the pandemic and retool them for social-distancing. My new piece on why and how. theatlantic.com/health/archi…
More important is something I said earlier: one of the two parties in our two party system fundamentally does not believe in the right to vote, and most certainly not in a right to vote safely and conveniently.
