In 1986 @alfiekohn published a book called “The Case Against Competition.” It drew upon 100s of studies to highlight negative aspects of competition and to show that even purported benefits are largely myths. 33 years later, people still need convincing. gsb.stanford.edu/insights/re…

One of my former employers had a “family” event that required being bussed to the location. Except busses left before school was out, which meant either keeping my kids with me all day, or self-driving to the event. I skipped it entirely and we had our own fun event.

Yes. I haven’t had a land line in 15+ years, my kids have never had one, and only my parents have one.

It’s not well recognized that being “promoted” to a manager role is a total career change, not a step up in progression of a technical career.

“The last thing a deep sea dweller will ever discover is water.” Although we all occupy the same space, our experiences are starkly different, even when literally standing side-by-side. For men that are surprised, they have a blind spot that they don’t even know about.

This is a point made in Mindf*ck, the book by @chrisinsilico about Cambridge Analytica. Wylie makes further recommendations to hold engineers personally accountable, similar to civil engineers, physicians, etc.

In case anyone missed this - we have an opening on my team. This is really an amazing place to work - I'm nearing 15 years here and I've had many other opportunities - but stayed because of the people and culture.
Interested in working on an AppSec program at (real) scale? We have a technical lead position open: employment.wellsfargo.com/ps… We have one of the best leaders I've ever worked with and an amazing team. It really is a great place to work.

See what your friend says when you tell them you referred to California as “Cali”. Hint: no one from California calls it “Cali”. 😀

The reason you’ll not see similar treatment of movie hacking scenes is because no one would be able to stop laughing long enough to explain how entirely unrealistic they are. Famous example: two people, one keyboard, furiously typing away. It’s not a button mash contest!
I broke down some skating scenes in iconic [and not-so-iconic] films for @GQMagazine:
Wow, @internetsociety sold the .org domain to a newly-formed for-profit firm connected to ISOC insiders after lifting the price caps. If this article is factual, then it’s a total breach of ethics and violation of public trust. theregister.co.uk/2019/11/20…
