Know an easy way to enable per-user content in Apache w/hostnames instead of subdirs? e.g. ://user.example.com/ not ://example.com/~user/

If HTTP, use mod_rewrite. If want HTTPS, you need either wildcard cert or a much more complicated vhost setup.

Wildcard DNS + cert is doable. Looks not too bad with
httpd.apache.org/docs/trunk/…
or
httpd.apache.org/docs/trunk/…
