I started full-time for Consumer Reports on January 19, but not before collecting a $2500 contracting invoice for contract work completed in December 2021, which included this story. consumerreports.org/privacy/… 12/22

I got $4450.65 in royalties for my business writing textbook through Stukent. I expect this to go up next year because I saw how much it earned in fiscal Q1. stukent.com/higher-ed/busine… 13/22

I also accepted a $250 kill fee for a World Politics Review piece that I didn’t feel like rewriting from scratch over a holiday, but I’m still said about it because I’ve always wanted to quote the amazing @trevortimm. Alas. 14/22

Because I’m full-time now, my 2022 freelancing income will likely be limited to book royalties, m_a_y_b_e an exciting (potential) new book project, work with a single non-profit and work with a single publication. 15/22

I’m expecting it’ll net far less than 33K, which is totally fine with me. I’ll do another thread on my favorite Consumer Reports projects that I’ve worked on this year, which I guess doesn’t belong in a freelance thread. 16/22

In solidarity with @wudanyan, some freelance losses this year (though not $ ones): I worked during my "vacation", including on a solo road trip to Palm Springs, and that really, really sucked. 17/22

Had I managed to transform myself into Anna Wiener with computer networking chops, it might have been worth it, though honestly, a real vacation would've been nicer. 18/22

Honestly, my biggest regret is working with the Intercept, which I wouldn’t have done if I knew about the massive scope creep, ghosting, gaslighting and bullshit. Advice: if you have a big international investigative tech story, take it to BuzzFeed or AP. 19/22
