Cyber experts - if you were interviewing a candidate for an entry-level Linux IR role, what one thing would you prioritise as essential basic knowledge to carry out the role?
You might have many, but you have to start with one in the interview - what would you go with?

For entry-level I鈥檇 look for some experience navigating terminal/basic commands, the OSI model, TCP/IP basics & analysis skills. I might give them a packet and 24 hrs to deliver a write up on it. Also what are their daily learning goals.
Would have higher expectations for Jrs.

I guess I鈥檓 the outlier.
For entry level roles that I hire, my expectation is they will know very little and I鈥檒l teach/train them. I鈥檓 mainly looking for someone eager to learn.

I wish to be that lucky person who will be considered for an entry-level role opportunity to be taught, by you sire.

When I first started in security, I networked in my local community by attending events, volunteering, etc and got involved in online communities. That's how I landed my first security role and how I got a job at PayPal -- through networking. It took a couple of years though.
