Just had an interesting call... question for you infosec Twitter... if someone has a criminal record, are they precluded from working in cyber security? The crime is not computer related.

I once had to turn down a great candidate because their legal record made it impossible for us to get them onto our penetration testing contracts with various financials. :(

Good point, on the vendor side it鈥檚 challenging given the Language in most MSAs, my personal opinion- everyone should have the opportunity to be in cyber.

The solve is to pass a law making background checks illegal, as it is in some jurisdictions such as Poland. FWIW, some language in contracts only obligate a background check, but are silent on exclusion criteria, so the company can decide.
