There is a well-established American myth that bilingualism delays childhood speech development. It's not true, and it hurts immigrant communities. The children of immigrants end up disconnected from their parents' languages as a result. Yet I still hear people say this!

There was a similar concern about baby sign language and it too is false. So many benefits to learning additional languages as children. It’s laughable (and likely rooted in colonialism) to believe otherwise. nbcnews.com/id/wbna8060750
