#infosec often accepts notoriety of commentators in place of actual competency & experience. The loudest or most publicly visible advice isn’t always the best.

There’s a study that found a group of strangers will pick the person who talks the most to be the leader, even if their ideas are bad. Perhaps humans are inclined to associate expertise with dominance of the narrative.

By nature, most humans are uncomfortable with uncertainty & look to external validation & leadership for reassurance. Religions, companies, & governments are built on this premise. It’s easier for some to follow a false prophet than to live without one.
