I finally had a chance to watch the third season of Designated Survivor and it was the best yet! But I'm not surprised @netflix cancelled it - it had the same issue as Touch, but in reverse.

When @RealKiefer starred in Touch, the show was an amazing story of connectedness and employed actors and locations that typically don't show up in American TV (except as tropes). It was beautiful, however Kiefer's "24" fan base was looking for action/adventure and abandoned it.

With low ratings of Season 1 of Touch, Season 2 was reimagined into more of a "24"-oriented plot line that would better appeal to Kiefer's fan base. Except that fan based all exited in Season 1, and everyone who stayed were turned off by Season 2. Low ratings killed it.

Designated Survivor learned the lesson from Touch and Seasons 1 and 2 were more aligned with "24", but the ratings were not good enough to get a third season. Likely to address the low ratings, the show pivoted to a "Madam Secretary"-style political drama on Netflix.

But that third season was brilliant compared to the first two, full of substance and depth. It could have been an incredible show for Netflix, but they would have needed to invest more energy in attracting different fans given the changes made.

Hopefully the next show that Kiefer stars in will find the audience up front, rather than trying to find them by changing the premise of the show between seasons, because that hasn't work at all.
