I would love to put together an event around "user safety, harm reduction, and tech" Are there folx in the tech community interested in this? Anyone with connections to $$ that would be interested in sponsoring an event like this?

Maybe we can get @tweetinjules to talk about the framework at the to-be-named Safety by Design conference. And perhaps @Arm + @simonsegars would be willing to sponsor, as a leader in the IoT space.

After sleeping on language, I want to stick with "harm reduction" as a frame for this first event. There are ways that "safety" has been and continues to be used to marginalize and exclude certain communities. For this first event, I would like to keep it as inclusive as possible

I’m curious to know more about the marginalization issues. For me, harm reduction speaks to reducing risk of harm for decisions made by individuals. Safety by Design instead focuses on reducing harm at product design. Eg putting tape over a laptop camera vs physical off switch.
