So now she is on her final warning and will be fired for any issue that causes a write up in the next 12 months. Keep in mind, my mom is going to die soon. So yeah. My sister isn’t perfect. Hell, she and I didn’t speak to each other for 7 years. But she deserves a break here.

Oh shit correction - the pneumonia didn’t get a write up, they backed down after proof of hospitalization was made. First write up was because her 18 year old daughter-in-law went into labor.

Still, she went from an impeccable record with zero issues since she was hired last June to being on a final warning in the span of a month. This is how fast circumstances can change on the front lines of hourly pay, even at a tech giant. Manager compassion matters.

I have friends at @Apple that offered to talk to HR on my sister’s behalf, but she declined and said she would try to work things out herself. I thought she was making the wrong call, but I respect her self-agency and didn’t interfere.

I mention this because she left work early today to care for our dying mother and can’t return until our father is out of the hospital after the massive heart attack he had today. She has been asked for ER documentation to excuse today’s absence. We’ll see what happens next.

I can not believe my sister had to go to work in an @Apple sales call center today and is having to escalate to get more than a half day of leave approved.

For comparison, when I texted: “My dad is having a heart attack, I’m in ambulance with him now Return to office just got uncertain” My manager at @Microsoft replied “Oh no. I'm so sorry. Take care of you. We got work covered.”

Hey @apple you’re looking pretty heartless here. Mom terminally ill and is in home hospice care and dad just had a massive heart attack yesterday. Is a one week unpaid leave of absence so hard to accommodate? 😡

She may have to, which sucks. Call ctr staff don’t have the career portability that a dev or security eng. does. She likes her job and is good at it, she started as an inexperienced seasonal temp and was so good she was hired full time. She just needs a little unpaid time off. 😕

If she doesn’t mind a 1.5 hour drive, @paypal has a call center in Chandler. jobsearch.paypal-corp.com/en…
