This so much 🎤 It’s usually obvious when I’m a “diversity pick,” & it means I’m gonna hustle more than ever to make it a talk the audience will never forget & smash the excuse that diversity = lack of quality
Dear anyone arguing diverse speakers are only there because "2019." Bitch do you know how many times I've been told my talk was the best in the whole event? So even if it were true—I was put there just because "diversity"—I still blew more socks off than anyone else. Mic drop. 🎤

People who view diversity as a hindrance to quality have missed the bigger picture. Diversity is akin to genetics, it’s needed to avoid inbreeding of thought, it attracts a diverse audience, and provides signal that this career path is available.

Diversity also expands what is considered quality. Closed-loop systems have bias that maintain status quo. That’s why studies show companies with diversity make better decisions and are more profitable. So-called “diversity picks” are uplifting the quality, not detracting.
