Zero was a game changer.
"The nine Indian figures are: 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 With these nine figures, and with the sign 0 which the Arabs call zephir any number whatsoever is written" Leonardo Fibonacci introducing the Hindu–Arabic numeral system to Europe with his book Liber Abaci in 1202.

The earliest known zero, contained in the Bakhshali Manuscript, was on display in London. I had a chance to see it last year and highly recommend it if it should go on display again. qz.com/india/1091628/an-exhi…
