I tried to show a brief (~1 minute) scene from the Bourne Ultimatum, which I own, to illustrate a point about surveillance in my privacy law class this evening. But when I connected my computer to the classroom projector, Apple’s DRM blocked playback. 😕

DRM doesn’t care about, nor allows for, fair use. Luckily ripping DVDs for remix derivative uses is an allowable exemption by the LoC. federalregister.gov/document…

Guess I’ll go purchase a bunch of DVDs of films I already (purportedly) own at a higher resolution, in case I need to do something that’s already legal.

I feel your pain. I lived in Europe for four years and have DVDs that only play in an EU player that sits in my US living room.
