There is a new & sophisticated #sextortion scam that may include an accurate scraped password-which DOES NOT mean they actually have nude images or videos of you. Don’t ever give money, do not reply & delete the scam email. Pls see @eSafetyOffice advice on dealing w/sextortion!

They had you at “maliscious”? Spelling always a good indication. But you can imagine a person’s panic when they see an accurate password that has been used in the past!!! Scammers are definitely getting more clever - and much more devious!

You can’t see the end of the message in my screenshot, but they claim to be in Belarus, which “explains” the poor English and probably dissuades complaints since law can’t reach them. Seems like we need something like financial literacy classes but for computer scams.

I’m still haunted by the story of Janella Spears, who kept sending money to Nigeria even after the police told her it was a scam, and only stopped when they threaten to arrest her. schneier.com/blog/archives/2…
