Speaking of higher degrees, I’ve found plenty of great InfoSec people without one, so I ask for a degree or relevant experience when hiring. High school and college are but one path to what we do.
That’s actually pretty good - I would have expected more friction, at least until you had a higher degree. I applied to a job in Germany last year and they wanted a copy of my high school diploma, which was the first time anyone had ever asked. I had to dig it it out of a box.
The reality is a HS diploma isn’t needed for a college diploma, nor does one have to take SAT. Wish guidance counselors would give struggling students that info. Here’s someone that dropped HS at 14 to be a magician, went to Harvard, teaches at Stanford. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pers…
Poorly delivered talks at conferences are a problem, but these days they are usually recorded, which means I can skip the talks and instead hallway network and watch talks at home on fast forward. The only talks I attend now are those that intersect strongly with my interests.

Diversity also expands what is considered quality. Closed-loop systems have bias that maintain status quo. That’s why studies show companies with diversity make better decisions and are more profitable. So-called “diversity picks” are uplifting the quality, not detracting.
People who view diversity as a hindrance to quality have missed the bigger picture. Diversity is akin to genetics, it’s needed to avoid inbreeding of thought, it attracts a diverse audience, and provides signal that this career path is available.
The largest problem with backdoors isn’t the potential domestic abuse, it’s the high probability that it will be exploited by foreign actors, of which lawmakers are a prime target. I am a big proponent that lawmakers should be the backdoor pilot group for a year, see how it goes.
TFW you encounter an error on your bank's website, and in trying to report it, find an error with their communication portal. Invest in QA! And maybe address the dozen JS errors in console...
This isn't infosec specifically, but I know @PayPal and other Silicon Valley companies partner with BreakLine for helping veterans transition into tech companies.
