I'm getting a 4-bay NAS for laptop backup, media and photo archives (it'll also backup to cloud). what RAID level and drive count is best?

initially I'm thinking 3x3TB at RAID 5 but I know nothing.

I have a 5x4TB RAID6 (2 redundant) but IME the hardware around the drives fails more often than the drives themselves.

I recently had to RMA my device twice because the controller kept failing. The drives were all fine each time tho.

At this point I'm thinking a couple USB 4TB drives that rsync to another set that sync to Backblaze is a better option. Fewer moving parts.
