yes, they are still a thing. If they are being used or not … I find that to be a case-by-case basis. Docs haven’t been updated in YEARS!

which docs were you looking at? There's been lots of updates in the last few years, e.g. microformats.io

Most of the docs around the spec were written on 2010. This link is a new doc, but the info is no different.

Google supports hCard, so if you have a lot of calendar data, I would recommend using it for SEO purposes.
