Any #indieweb solution that begins with "own your own domain" will not work. It's time we start thinking different. Discuss.

@jaredhanson I thought the same thing, but @haxor sold me on the idea. Can't have indie w/o ownership, and what else can you own on the net?

@shawndrape @haxor I'd suggest it is time to move beyond DNS. The problem is rarely the solution.

@jaredhanson What personal identifier on the Internet do you actually own? Blaming DNS's shortcomings is missing the point. /cc @shawndrape

@haxor Why is it missing the point? As long as owning is required, most people will be content to rent. /cc @shawndrape

@haxor I think its worth considering that we may need an alternative to DNS to fully realize IndieWeb goals. /cc @shawndrape

@aaronpk +1. Anything you see that prevents exploring alternatives to DNS today? /cc @shawndrape @haxor

Replying to @aaronpk
@aaronpk Agreed, but I'd label your "actually using" as "exploring" relative to FB or Twitter. Ergo my comments. /cc @shawndrape @haxor

@aaronpk The identifier problem needs fixing, and we need to acknowledge that directly and begin work. /cc @shawndrape @haxor
