I drew a map the other day to explain San Francisco to people. Just avoid that little red loop and you’re basically fine. The rest of the city is lovely.

Yeah I mean that’s where all the hotels are. You’re fine if you walk east first. And most of the decent hotels are okay just a block from some dodgy shit. If you’re coming to down I would strongly recommend staying at Parker guest house or somewhere in Hayes valley…

… or one of the little hotels in the Castro. They’re nicer, the areas are more fun and you’re still twenty mins and $10 in a cab from everywhere
