It's absolutely wild to me that companies will mail me a postcard a few weeks after an Amazon purchase and offer a $150 gift card to leave a review! Is that really profitable? Are they actually going to make back $150 because of my one review?

Ah, the illegal fake review scheme that can cause them to lose their store. It would be a shame if they got reported...

Odd that it's that much. @podcastage had a company offering him a free cheap microphone or something in exchange for a 5 star review. I don't remember the details but I'm sure he'll fill you in

It's a bribe, to influence the ratings, once the product has sufficient good ratings the price point of product is raised and this other customers pay the price. Ratings are fast becoming useless like imdb.
