People comparing this to "every NFL match" as if that somehow makes any of it okay???
#BurningMan created an art installation one can see from space. It's called INSANITY and included tens of thousands of people burning thousands of gallons of gas while spending up to 13 hours trying to exit the festival in 110 degree heat.

Everyone is pearl clutching about this and has no idea how exodus works. I work with Gate Perimeter & Exodus at the burn and here's the deal: Exodus does pulsing to reduce carbon production. Pulsing means cars are held behind a certain point, and released in "pulses" onto the rd.

Ultimately what this excessively publicized "seen from space" story is about is a parking lot.

like I said, that doesn't make it okay. I'm glad they at least think about traffic flow, but it's kind of a ridiculous situation in the first place.

I understand the irony here as someone with the handle I still possess as my twitter username and a longtime advocate of cycling and public transit infrastructure, but Burning Man is just an easy target for haters.

How many people travel to New York or to Paris or to London every year? Do our eyes roll back in our heads and mouths froth at articles about all the carbon spent on international travel or road trips in general? No. They don't.

Human beings go on vacation. Those vacations are most often than not very carbon intensive.
