I've always thought these look pretty cool, but my goodness are they expensive.
Latest toy, runs Linux, weighs 24kb and is the size of a TV with much less resolution. Writing bash scripts that make loud clicky noises is fun. Recommended.

If you had one of those you'd sure as hell pay attention to it. Consider your upcoming task clacking away - 1 letter at a time, ever faster - until you did the thing... :-) What say you, @RosemaryOrchard and @MacSparky?

I believe @aaronpk was looking at something similar and got one a while ago!

I did! I found some very excellent plans for a DIY one, but the cost for the parts for the DIY version ended up being 3-4x the cost of this one! Not to mention it would also be approximately a million additional hours of work. So I bought that and it's been fantastic.

Oh, I'm not saying it isn't a fair price for the work that went into it.

I'm sure if I were running a business where I could attempt to determine some monetary value for the benefits that such kitsch decor would bring in terms of custom, where customers would frequent my establishment for its nostalgic atmosphere, then I could establish a positive ROI

From the "clacking as nagger" point of view a very small one - say 20cm x 10 cm - would do nicely. In fact it could be digital with the noise simulated. Anyone got samples? Shame I'll've forgotten about this by next weekend... :-)
