My mac says "Your screen is being observed" on the lock screen. How do I tell what app is doing this?? I've already turned off screen recording permissions for all apps in the Privacy section. And rebooted.

Update: I found the app causing the "Your screen is being observed" message! It is the drivers for the 3dconnexion SpaceMouse! Why that needs screen recording capability is beyond me.

I run into this any time I've left a virtual display running, in my case an old iPad running Duet Display. Doubt that's what is happening in your case, but maybe it will trigger an idea!

I mean is it driving a SDI matrix with multiple Hyperdecks? I mean it does appear to be being observed! Jokes aside, System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Screen Recording may give some clues.

Do you use DisplayLink for an external screen? If so, it’s probably that

Screen sharing is turned off, and I've gone through all the obvious stuff at this point.
