at what point do the emails and gmail labels from jobs and projects 10+ years ago stop being relevant and should I delete them?

Hypothetically, if you wanted to keep them but didn’t want them cluttering your primary Gmail you could dump them into a new Gmail account.

That's something I hadn't considered... like forwarding them all? Or is there some way to move them between accounts that I don't know.

What a good question! I don't know if I *need* anything as old as 10 years, but I nevertheless keep backups of all old accounts. My preferred tool these days is "offlineimap" which makes it easy to keep email on file.

That's a good idea, I'm going to give that a try

It's one of the reasons I like folders instead of labels. Old folders can be eventually moved to the "Archive" folder to get them out of the way, once I stop using them.

At this point my main use of labels is the auto labeling rules I set up so that my inbox is color coded based on the project
