Second line fixed with new PEX pipe. Water for house turned back on and no leaks left. Whew! Now we wait for the walls to dry out and repairman to come probably in a couple of days.

So a few things I learned: if you hear a ‘shhhhhhh’ noise from behind your wall, don’t ignore it. Inspect literally every crevice for moisture. Turn off the water. Luckily I didn’t ignore it and immediately asked hubs if I was just hearing things, and he found drips in basement.

Also, one for the ladies: if the builder, contractor, whomever doubts you and thinks you’re just getting worked up, document the shit out of it. Send them photos so they know you’re documenting it 😂. Mine didn’t doubt me but I think my photos made him decide to turn up quickly.

PEX is neat! But if someone sticks a nail in it, it’ll rust, and eventually the hole will leak. This is something the builders shouldn’t have done, and an inspector should have caught.
We got an inspection before we moved in but after all the walls were up.

We signed for the house when it was practically already built so our inspector couldn’t have seen this problem.

Dunno why the plumbing folks didn’t tell the pantry team where the PEX was or why they decided to mount it so close to a wall where nails would be installed 🤷🏻♀️. They did put nail guards at the top and bottom pantry shelves but none on the ones in between.

I do think we caught it right when it started leaking. The hiss I heard in the wall must’ve started sometime between when we went to sleep and 8am when I was in the kitchen. And the water in the basement was really minimal. my guess is the nails were blocking the water til today.
