oh yea not this then. I actually often use it specifically to remove formatting from text I've copied.

Yeah the beauty of Clipboard History was you would invoke the past shortcut (i.e. command-shift-V) and that presented a list. Hold shift, and that would convert to plain text. I used that all the time to clean up text.
