I looked at it and went with schema.org and JSON-LD instead. What's the best argument for why I should add them back?

They meet separate goals. Schema gets you the promise of better indexing by Google, microformats get you better integration with social readers and indieweb interactions.

Here's a few! archive.org/details/iwc-aust… Social readers are a step up from traditional subscribe-only readers. Schema is fine for google indexing, but there's so much more that's possible!
