I'm taking the trip from Montreal to San Francisco by train this weekend. It's been amazing; beautiful scenery, nice people, and I've had several stops for meals along the way. Best of all, I saved more than a tonne of CO2. #TrainsNotPlanes

Okay this may have convinced me to take the much shorter 8 hour train from Portland to Vancouver for the next IETF meeting

I think air travel replacement makes a lot more sense for a regional trip like that, too. For a 90-minute flight from PDX to YYV, you have to add 4 or more hours door-to-door for getting to and from the airport, security, check-in, etc.
