It could be a good time for someone to create an open standard for meetups. Sort of like RSS for blogs and podcasts.

that standard already exists between schema.org and WebMentions.

Have you used schema with webmentions? Example url(s) please

not yet, but I'm not sure why it would be a problem? WebMentions just sends a URL to where the other is being mentioned, it's up to the reciever to expect a resource with schema.org metadata.

Totally! But check out what we've done with Webmention and Microformats for the last few years: 2019.indieweb.org/summit#ind… All these RSVPs are via Webmention Microformats. Click thru the permalinks to see the original posts!

In summary: the standards already exist, I think what is missing is mechanism for most people to utilize those standards and a sustainable business model to support that mechanism.

Yep! I would love to see more people build out apps that make it easy for people to find and RSVP to events! It's a huge problem space and no single project will cover all use cases anyway. See also: indieweb.org/plurality
