Some ppl pointed out this is probably “just” an implementation of OAuth w/ email forwarding on top. That’s probably correct. However, what sets Apple apart from the other major OAuth providers (mainly Facebook & Google) is that Apple is not in the business of selling your data.
This reminds me of OpenID. A failed attempt at providing a decentralized, private one-click sign in platform across the web. It couldn’t get the adoption it needed. While it will be centralized, if there’s any company I trust to do it right it’s Apple. techcrunch.com/2019/06/03/ap…

I just tried it out and it's OAuth + OpenID Connect with a little bit of Apple uniqueness sprinkled in.
