In 2007 I attended a silicon valley ruby conference where @defunkt was presenting about Mofo (github.com/defunkt/mofo) which was his microformat parser built on top of Hpricot.

^ I remember sitting in the audience and thinking just how obvious it was to me that Chris was one of a kind. I'm pretty sure this was before he and Tom started working on github.

^ Chris talked fast and was SO EXCITED about microformats (seriously, I still think microformats are a big idea that never got adopted like they should have).

^ I think a lot of the audience in that talk didn't get it. It seemed like he got a tepid response. But I was immediately a Chris Wanstrath fanboy. I sat there thinking that I should go talk to him, and see if I could get him to come work with me.
