Every game is just Unreal or Unity and the same clunky shit, running worse than games from the 2000s. Modern CPUs and threadsafe code allows for insanely complex simulation. Imagine Dwarf Fortress designed ground-up for 64 cores. So where are the autistic passion projects?

They're still out there, but you gotta look for them. Off the top of my head I'd recommend Kenshi, CDDA, Rimworld, Trepang2 and Project Wingman. Also retro games like X-Com or Master of Magic/Orion, are waaay more fun than the current shit.
