It is worth noting that there are still times -- all too rare -- when @ACLU will defend the speech and other political rights of groups with which they politically disagree. ACLU has spent years defending the NRA from the efforts of Gov. Cuomo to destroy it due to its views:
BREAKING: We’re representing the NRA at the Supreme Court in their case against New York’s Department of Financial Services for abusing its regulatory power to violate the NRA’s First Amendment rights. The government can’t blacklist an advocacy group because of its viewpoint.

That's more of an indictment against the NRA than anything. The NRA, as the de facto voice of gun owners in America, have ceded more and more rights over the years.
