Everything @algore says in this stupid, but he's just flat wrong about Q anon. He blames algorithms for leading people into Q anon, but 8chan had no algorithms. Q was the result of normal people being banned off all normal social media for holding mildly conservative views. A bunch of people with no exposure to imageboards fell for this weird conman that promised them hope that people actually knew what they were doing in Trump's admin. The 8chan owners exploited this to grow their site and continue the charade when it was banned off 4chan. Like it or not, it was 100% organic growth with no algos involved.

He's right that they should be at least regulated. If capitalism is running amok, how do you fix it? Regulate the morality into the business. Otherwise they only answer to shareholders. Imagine a law, all algorithms must benefit mankind.

I don't think it was just the bans. I think there were a lot of low-information/intelligence MAGA/Trump people who were coping hard after Trump lost and were grasping at anything that could help explain away Trump's poor performance (without examining the key factor: Trump).
