I am genuinely staggered by how pervasive alcoholism is in the US. I've encountered a lot of alcoholics but I never would have guessed that 1 out of 10 Americans over the age of 12 will drink more than 4 of those 750ml "fifths" every week. Just crazy.

COVID lockdowns made alcoholism go through the roof, tons of people became serious drunks and obviously didn't stop once everything reopened

It is pervasive for sure, but look at the way they define a single "drink", only the most desperate and long gone are drinking multiple bottles of hard liquor a week.

I drink 6 beers on the weekends, and even then I have been trying to break the habit. But seeing shit like r/showerbeer really puts into perspective just how serious of a problem alcohol has become for some people.

75 drinks is less than three fifths is you count one shot as a drink It's easily done if you drink every day

To be fair Josh Alcoholism is a true Americana past time Back prior to the temperance movement and prohibition America was statistically the most drunkest nation in the world (But on a sidepoint: add how addictive it can be combine that with how shit modernity is; Prob be high)
