I am genuinely staggered by how pervasive alcoholism is in the US. I've encountered a lot of alcoholics but I never would have guessed that 1 out of 10 Americans over the age of 12 will drink more than 4 of those 750ml "fifths" every week. Just crazy.

And this is in a nation that shames drinking. Think about how bad it is in other places that don't have the same feelings about say, drinking on a weekday and where the legal age is higher. Alcohol is a world plague

Just saw a guy park at a liquor store and was back in his car with a 12 pack in under 30 seconds and immediately grabbed one and cracked it open while driving away. Felt like seeing the Michael Jordan of alcoholism

74 drinks is a bit over 3 fifths of 80 proof liquor.

Hey now, just because I'm in the top 10% doesn't mean I'm an alcoholic. I'm just a drunkard.
