ok, it's time to stop doomposting and it's time to start planning for my boomer future Amerimutts, if I return to the fatherland, how easy is it to get into fishing? What sort of time investment am I looking at between commitment and grilling a large mouth bass for supper?

It's pretty easy in the Midwest, plenty of fishing spots license cheap man places to shore fish or John boat if you wanna stay in small river/tiny lakes for cheap.

Move to a coastal town. Fresh water fishing can be grueling and you gotta buy all kinds of gear to consistently catch fish. Find the right coastal spot and you can just post up on a peer and eat like a king.

You should have pulled the trigger on land 3 years ago. Even an acre is 60K now. 😔 move to Oklahoma. Great fishing.

Like as little as 50 dollars including license, rod, and tackle.

live near a stocked lake or river and you're good to go

The hardest part of fishing is getting the line on the rod that’s basically magic to me.
