ok, it's time to stop doomposting and it's time to start planning for my boomer future Amerimutts, if I return to the fatherland, how easy is it to get into fishing? What sort of time investment am I looking at between commitment and grilling a large mouth bass for supper?

Move to the Ozarks. Best bass fishing in the country and it’s genuinely beautiful. Red state as well.

Make sure you live in western states if you wanna river fish

Depends where you are, here you can find catfish without even having a rod lmao but a rod and a river will add enjoyment and easily turn it into a fun family activity for all ages. Not a steep learning curve at all.

Just watch a couple videos about the basics and you'll be good to go. Or have a dad

If you grill a bass, you're not welcome

Just have your fishing license and whatever rules your local game warden has. You can do stuff on the cheap if you look you up some vids or tutorials.

Takes like 5 minutes to get a fishing license. Catching a bass depends on skill, bait, location, and luck. Could get one right after you cast, could get a hit after an hour. Scaling and gutting it takes another few minutes (depending on skill), then 20 mins to cook it.
