ok, it's time to stop doomposting and it's time to start planning for my boomer future Amerimutts, if I return to the fatherland, how easy is it to get into fishing? What sort of time investment am I looking at between commitment and grilling a large mouth bass for supper?

Depends on how much beer you can drink in an hour.

Consider game hunting instead. Alternatively you can’t hold off a horde of roving socioeconomic zombies with a fishing rod.

Find the right area and your grilling within 30 minutes. I caught my first fish on my first cast ever.

You want to head to the PNW. Southern Oregon is where I would go. Stay the fuck away from civilization and you’ll be glad

My oldest friend fishes ALL the time. I’m not into it. Apparently there are lots of fishing groups (he likes fly fishing)

This partly depends on you. Some can do it. Some can't. You could catch something worthwhile inside 20 minutes. You might not catch anything in 8 hours.

$23 license for a year, $50 in cheapo fishing gear, watch >2 hours of fishing YT tutorials and you're good to go.
