This 👆is a LIE and Kevin know it! Shall we?
We've been trusting Republicans for more than three decades now, but the results have been devastating.
Bill Clinton gave us a surplus of $63 billion when he left office.
Then, the Bush era, under Republican leadership, got us into two unpaid wars that we couldn't afford and didn't need. By the time he was done, we had a $3.3 trillion deficit, a severe recession, a collapse of the housing and stock markets, and sky-high unemployment.
Obama took over and spent lots of money to get us out of that recession, control unemployment, and save people's homes from being taken over by hedge fund vultures. He even left Trump with a growing economy.
Trump, however, gave a massive $1.7 trillion in tax cuts to the wealthiest people, tried to take credit for Obama's work, and then couldn't handle his first major crisis as president. He left us with an extra $7.8 trillion added to our deficit, with not much to show for it except for 8 new miles of border wall, which Mexico was supposed to fund, and two impeachment proceedings in just his 4-year term.
It's frustrating to think that Republicans in the House could have focused on issues like inflation, crime, and border security, which matter to everyday Americans as they promised. Instead, they've been busy conducting pointless investigations, for instance into gas stoves. Even worse, they're using the House of Representatives to block legal actions against Trump, who's currently facing 19 lawsuits.
It's worth noting that the debt ceiling has been raised 49 times under Republican presidents without any protest, including three times under Trump without any complaints.
Raising the debt ceiling is basically just paying for what's already been bought. It's like telling your credit card company you won't pay them until you've cut your spending. What would happen? They'd close your account and ruin your credit rating.
We need to pay our bills and stop risking our country's future and people's retirement plans. Pay the damn bill, Kevin.
