The pipeline to opportunity doesn't happen in a vacuum. Hard work, a thirst for learning, and my faith in God took me from poverty to serving in Congress. To the Americans going through hard times: if I can do it, you can too.

There are lots of people who have overcome poverty and social disadvantages. The disgraceful ones are Republicans who insist that they did it all by themselves. No teachers/mentors, no friends, no helping hand, no luck. Just wanting to learn, praying.

Let鈥檚 face it. You got a partial football scholarship to college. You then worked as an insurance agent & financial advisor b4 starting to hold a series of political offices in 1995. You entered the US Senate having been appointed to fill a vacancy. Quite a struggle.

No. Taking single anecdotes is stupid gop nonsense. Success and well being depends a lot on luck, talent etc. Some are less fortunate than others. Should mainly look at statistics to see if a group is particularly fairing worse or not.

You betrayed every person who shed blood so you could align yourself with bigots. Shame on you for lying about the hundreds of years of hard work done by our ancestors and is happening today. Shame on you for agreeing with racist stereotypes about Black people.
