You should have tried that line before oil and wholesale gasoline prices dropped 25% , which should lead to a significant drop in gas prices over the next few weeks

Gouging is a big deal and, prices are the highest IF you don't adjust for inflation. If you do, prices have been higher. This has lead to record profits which makes the very wealthy very happy.
