@MojangSupport My friend and I have been using the same Minecraft accounts for years to play with each other. However about two years ago we ran into a never ending “unable to connect to world” screen. No matter what we do, we just can’t join each other’s worlds.

Make sure you have permissions enabled to play multiplayer (more info on that here: bit.ly/3zjgZ6W) but to rule out connection issues, we recommend switching to a hardwire connection if you are on wifi. Can you let us know what troubleshooting you've already tried? ^AM
