I bought Minecraft java edition but then had to do a factory reset on my laptop and now it says I have to buy Minecraft again. Is this true or is there a way to get around this.

You shouldn't need to repurchase Minecraft in this case. You can download Java here: msft.it/6018bVCTg. Follow the instructions for the version you prefer and log in with either your Mojang or Microsoft account. ^FF
